Bio

Giustini / Stagetti, founded in Rome in 2009 by Roberto Giustini and Stefano Stagetti, focuses on both modern Italian design and international contemporary design.

Its research into the twentieth century centers on the leading figures of Italian architecture and design from the 1930s to the 1970s, with particular attention to figures such as Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, Gino Sarfatti, and Ettore Sottsass. The gallery also maintains an ongoing interest in Venetian glass production from the 1910s to the 1960s.

Its contemporary design activity consists of inviting international designers to create exclusive collections for the gallery.

Since 2011, the gallery has collaborated with designers including Campana Brothers, Konstantin Grcic (within the project Privato Romano Interno, curated by Emanuela Nobile Mino), Andrea Anastasio, Formafantasma (curated by Domitilla Dardi), Giacomo Moor, Umberto Riva, Anton Alvarez, and Francesco Faccin.

Giustini / Stagetti regularly collaborates with museums and public institutions to support and promote its designers.

Since the 1990s, Roberto Giustini has pursued research into contemporary work positioned between art and design. Notable collaborations include those with Enzo Cucchi and Ettore Sottsass on projects for public spaces, including: Il Solco, a large ceramic panel at the Ala Mazzoniana of Rome’s Termini Station (2000); a large ceramic panel for the Salvator Rosa metro station in Naples (2001–2002); Mostra Ristretta at the MAXXI Museum in Rome (2003); four ceramic fountains for the Chiostro della Pace at the University of Salerno campus (2005–2006); and Le Vie dell’Arte in the Madonie Park, Sicily (2005–2007), by Johanna Grawunder and Konstantin Grcic.

Also noteworthy is the series of exhibitions organized between 2006 and 2008 under the name Galleria Roberto Giustini and curated by Marcello Smarrelli, featuring artists such as Emanuelle Antille, Massimo Grimaldi, Gerwald Rockenschaub, Andrea Anastasio, Johanna Grawunder, Ettore Sottsass, and the duo Johanna Grawunder – Rob Pruitt.

Stefano Stagetti specializes in Italian design and decorative arts from the 1920s to the 1970s. His research has focused in particular on the work of Gio Ponti (Design Objects, 2007, Galleria Babuino Novecento, Rome), Fontana Arte (Lights and Transparencies, 2006, Galleria Babuino Novecento, Rome), and Ettore Sottsass (A Collection 1959–1974, 2008, Galleria Babuino Novecento, Rome).

Together with Roberto Giustini, he curated a collection of gold jewelry designed by Enzo Cucchi (Giù la piazza nessuno, Mare che sei nostro, Le case si riempiono a metà, Galleria Babuino Novecento, Rome, 2008).
