Bio

GALLERY B·R is the type of place where you might find mid-century chairs by designer Pierre Jeanneret, an abstract painting by contemporary Spanish artist Jordi Alcaraz, or an ancient Roman sculpture from the first century. This culmination of carefully sourced objects is housed under the roof of a beautiful three-storey, heritage-listed building in Tetbury, the Cotswolds. Just like the objects that GALLERY B·R holds, its location is rather curious – particularly when you consider its founders, Pep and Cuca, launched the business in their native Barcelona in Spain. Pep and his life and work partner Cuca organise the gallery space with a tabula rasa philosophy – tabula rasa meaning the chance of a fresh start. So, when new pieces come in, they always start by placing them in an empty room. This allows them to play with possibilities. They introduce a single piece of furniture at a time, then add paintings and lighting until it all works together in unity.

The aesthetic at GALLERY B·R is a mix but the leading principle is that less is more. For them, it’s all about the feeling; it’s much more about the way it makes you feel rather than what you see. Some galleries create a cold atmosphere through the austereness of the space. They’re trying to counter that. In this gallery, the door is always open.
