Bio
The Galerie Gastou opened its doors in 1985, and for over four decades the gallery has showcased furniture and design from historic and contemporary creators on rue Bonaparte in the heart of Paris. Housed in the only space in France designed by the revolutionary 20th century Italian architect and designer, Ettore Sottsass, the gallery has been home to the first exhibitions of the 1980s masters of design such as the Memphis group, Shiro Kuramata and André Dubreuil, Ron Arad and Tom Dixon.
From Yves Gastou to his son Victor who joined him in 2005, the Gastou name has become synonymous with a daring mix of styles, materials, techniques and eras, confronting these works with those of the major creators of the 1940s and 1950s like André Arbus and Gilbert Poillerat. In the same spirit as the great decorator Henri Samuel, the Galerie Gastou also brought to light the creations of designers of the 1970s, Philippe Hiquily, Ado Chale, and Paul Evans, among others.
Today, under the direction of Victor Gastou, the gallery continues its search of mixing and eclecticism by confronting the 20th century masters of design with the designers of the 21st such as Agnès Debizet, Béatrice Serre, Emmanuel Jonckers, Emmanuel Babled, Omar Chakil and Irene Cattaneo. The gallery has also taken a more important role in the introduction of these designers, both historic and contemporary, on a global scale, participating in a number of international shows each year, ranging from France to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium and the United States.
