Gallery FUMI is a contemporary design gallery based in Mayfair, London.
Established in 2008 by Sam Pratt and Valerio Capo, the gallery features conceptually and aesthetically audacious designers and artists. Many use traditional techniques such as carving, glassblowing, marquetry, lacquering and meticulous hand assemblage; others disassemble, burn or apply experimental technologies in the making. Works are predominantly made by hand in a small workshop context, embodying the values of craftsmanship and materiality. Gallery FUMI emphasises the satisfyingly tactile as well as the purely visual and great significance is placed on the emotional as well as practical value of craft.
The directors have built enduring creative relationships with institutions, interior designers and collectors alike, and have gained a reputation for applying a very personal and original touch in their selection and curation. They marry a close understanding of the potential of their designers with a keen knowledge of the market to commission exclusive, low-volume, limited editions. The gallery runs an ambitious programme of exhibitions alongside a presence at international design fairs.
In October 2014 AD Spain voted FUMI one of the Top Ten “Temples of Design“ in the world.
In 2018 the gallery celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special unique show “Now and Then” curated by Libby Sellers.
